The deadline set by the Maoists for the release of their jailed comrades in exchange for the four cops kidnapped from Bihar's Lakhisarai district ends at 10 am today.
The Naxals extended the deadline after the 4 pm deadline on Wednesday went by without the Bihar government accepting their demands.
The Naxals have threatened to kill the cops if their demands are not met. They want their jailed colleagues to be released and security forces withdrawn from Naxal areas.
The four policemen - Mohammad Ehsaan, Rupesh Kumar Sinha, Abhay Prasad Yadav, Lokus Tete- were taken hostage on Sunday, during an encounter in the forests of Lakhisarai. Seven other policemen were killed during the encounter and 11 others were injured.
As the new deadline approaches, it's a painful wait for the families of the kidnapped policemen.
"I will request the Maoists to please return my husband. If not then kill all the other members of the family as well. I am ready to eat poison and die. Please take me also to the Naxals. I will request them...what wrong have I done to them," says Rajani Devi, wife of Abhay Yadav.
The Bihar Chief Minister's office says all help will be given to the families, and that the police top brass have been asked to do everything possible to get the kidnapped cops released.
The statement came after the wife of one of the kidnapped policemen met CM Nitish Kumar.
