YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday ruled out joining hands with the Congress or the BJP.
In his campaign here on Thursday, Mr. Jagan alleged that several parties and forces had “ganged up” against him like Abhimanyu in the Kurukshetra war. He appealed to people to elect YSR Congress candidates with a comfortable majority and teach UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi a lesson. He reiterated that the Congress and the TDP had colluded in a bid to counter him but they would not succeed.
Trend-setters
Accusing Congress men of distributing money to voters, Mr Jagan said the voters, who had immense faith in YSR, cannot be lured by money. Mr Jagan said he was pained at the split in the YSR family and hoped that the people would understand his feelings. He said he could not set aside values for the sake of political positions and power. The Kadapa and Pulivendula by-elections would be trendsetters for a new political phase in the State.
Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said he and his mother, Y.S. Vijayamma, did not bow before Ms. Sonia Gandhi, despite hurdles posed to his Odarpu Yatra, and resigned from the Congress to uphold self-respect and the values propagated by YSR. He reiterated his contention that the elections were between Sonia's betrayal and YSR's credibility. YSR's golden rule would return if the people elected YSR Congress candidates in the by-elections, he said.
Shows symbol
He showed a ceiling fan, his party's symbol, to voters and sought their patronage. Mr Jagan offered prayers at the Ameen Peer Dargah also known as Pedda Dargah and offered prayers. His road show covered Almaspet, Pedda Dargah circle, Krishna Circle, Yerramukkapalli, Nagarajupet, old bus stand, Chennur bus stand and Mochampet circle.
Muslim spiritual leader Syed Valiullah, former MLA Rehman, former Kadapa Mayor P. Raveendranath Reddy and YSR Congress leaders, T. Sivasankar, T.K. Afzal Khan, S.B. Amjad Basha, and others participated in the campaign.
