US President Barack Obama has not been able to quit smoking as yet, it has emerged.

During a routine physical, doctors at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center advised him to "continue smoking cessation efforts."

In the cryptic recommendation, the doctor suggested Obama to continue his "nicotine replacement therapy - self-use (gum or the patch)".

However, it described Obama as being in "excellent health" and "fit for duty," reports the New York Daily News.

Obama had admitted during the 2008 presidential campaign of not being able to fully succeed in his effort to quit smoking.

He also said that First Lady Michelle Obama, and kids Malia and Sasha, are constantly pushing him to stop smoking.
